Arden Motorsport is aiming for a repeat showing in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship at Donington Park, Leicestershire this weekend (9-11 July) after a maiden podium finish last time out at Silverstone.
The Banbury-based team made a first trip to the rostrum in the UK’s premier single seater category in Northamptonshire last month courtesy of Alex Connor, alongside another solid points haul for Frederick Lubin.
That was due in no small part to a superb display of overtaking from the Dubai-based Brit, moving up five positions during the reverse-grid race to secure the runner-up spot, his first podium in F3 machinery.
Lubin will unfortunately be side-lined this weekend due to medical advice, but the team looks forward to welcoming him back at Spa-Francorchamps later this month.
In his place, the Red Arrows welcome back Roman Bilinski, the Polish racer set to make his debut as he evaluates his options beyond the end of his current British Formula 4 campaign.
The 17-year-old from Lechlade is no stranger to success in red and white, having scored three outright podiums and 23 points finishes from 26 starts in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series for Arden in 2020.
Qualifying kicks off the competitive action at 11:00 on Saturday following two days of pre-event testing, before the opening race around the 2.4-mile GP circuit at 14:20 BST.
Sunday features a live-streamed double header on British F3’s YouTube channel and social media platforms, with lights out at 10:15 and 15:40.
Gary Ward, Arden British F3 Team Manager said:
“It should be another good weekend for us in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship at Donington Park. We’ve been in really solid form recently, so the aim is to build on that this time out.
“It’s great to welcome Roman back to the team for his F3 debut, although our thoughts go out to Frederick. He’ll be back fighting at Spa, I’m sure, but in the meantime, we’ll go out and get another good haul of points on his behalf.
“I’m sure Alex is feeling very motivated after his first podium at Silverstone last time out, so here’s hoping for some more silverware to take back to HQ after this weekend.”
Roman Bilinski (#4) said:
“I’m really looking forward to making my debut in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship this weekend.
“It’s a good chance for me to gain more experience at a higher level, and I’m already familiar with a lot of the drivers I’ll be racing against from Formula 4 and Ginetta Juniors.
“We’re not setting any expectations for the weekend, it’s all about going out, learning the circuit, the car and enjoying the experience. A big thanks to everybody who has made this opportunity possible.”
Alex Connor (#27) said:
“Donington Park has always been a strong circuit for me, so I’m looking forward to my first outing there in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship this weekend.
“Silverstone was a really good step in the right direction for me, and it’s always great to celebrate a first podium finish in a new championship. We’re definitely up at the sharp end, pace-wise, so the aim now is to make that a more regular result.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back out there and seeing what we can do.”
