Mixed emotions in Monza

Orudzhev victorious, Panis unfortunate after start accident

Orudzhev takes his third win of the season at Monza, whilst teammate Panis is taken out of contention.

Collective Test 1 was cut short due to a red flag, as Orudzhev finished P4, and Panis in P7. Collective Test 2 saw the Arden duo with very fast pace, topping the timing sheet on several occasions. When the session finished, Orudzhev missed out on 1st position by 39 thousands of a second, with team-mate Panis not far behind in 3rd.

Qualifying session was dominated by both Arden cars up until the final laps, Orudzhev finished 5th, and Panis in 6th.

Aurelien Panis got off to a terrific start off the line, moving up into 4th by the end of lap one. After a small mistake touching the gravel, Orudzhev found himself near the back of the pack but didn’t let them phase him, pushing back through. Panis was battling with Binder for 4th, but held his ground and kept Vaxiviere in his sights. Not far behind was Orudzhev, who kept gaining positions lap by lap. As the chequered flag was waved, Panis came across the line to take 4th and Orudzhev in 7th.

Despite a difficult Qualifying 2 session in the morning, spirits were high going into Race 2. Orudzhev lined up 5th, and Panis in 13th. As the lights went out, both cars got off to an incredible start, but the race ended early for Panis, who ended up behind launched into the air by another car clipping his front tyre. Safety car was deployed as Panis was extracted from the car and into an ambulance where he was taken to a local hospital for further checks. Orudzhev remained in the lead, and as the safety car lights went off, Orudzhev backed the pack up for an incredible restart. Orudzhev took the win with a gap of 0.965, his 3rd win of the season.

Aurelien Panis was taken to a local hospital for further checks, and after a radiology scan we can confirm Aurelien is ok. He is bruised but after some rest he will be fit for Jerez. Arden Motorsport would like to send a huge thank you to all the medical staff who helped Aurelien during the distressing time.
