Arden Motorsport look to maintain momentum at Spa

Banbury team look to build on podium return as Europe's premier single-seater series heads for Belgium.

Arden Motorsport are looking to build on their recent return to form in the Formula Renault Eurocup as Europe’s premier single-seater series heads to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, this weekend [23-24 October].

After securing his first silverware of the campaign last time out in Barcelona, Belgian ace Ugo de Wilde will be looking for a repeat performance in front of his home crowd in the Ardennes Forest.

That, coupled with another solid weekend for Alex Quinn and Reshad De Gerus’ first point in the category has given the Banbury-based team a good foundation to build on heading into the event, which takes place on the undercard of the world-famous Total 24 Hours of Spa.

Characterised by its high-speed, sweeping curves and change in gradient, the 4.35-mile Spa circuit has brought good results for Arden’s Renault-powered protégées in the past; in 2019, it yielded the team’s first silverware of the campaign in the hands of Sebastian Fernandez.

Of the trio, De Gerus is the driver that arrives with the best record around Spa, the Reunionese racer taking victory in Belgium in the French Formula 4 Championship last season.

De Wilde has a consistent, points-scoring record on home turf, but for Quinn, Spa represents another brand-new circuit to master.

A positive two-day test pre-event has given the team optimism, with a race apiece on Friday (13:25) and Saturday (09:45 – both times BST) to follow.

As usual, the action will be broadcast live on Renault Sport Series’ YouTube channel and social media platforms.

Ben Salter, Arden Formula Renault Team Manager said:
“Last time out at Barcelona was definitely a step back in the right direction for the entire team, so our focus is directed towards building on that this weekend at Spa.

“Reshad and Ugo both have strong track records here, but it’ll be a steep learning curve for Alex at a brand-new track for him. Fortunately, he’s a quick learner, so I doubt it’ll take long to get him up to speed!

“The team have done an excellent job back at base getting everything ready for the weekend, so now we need to keep working hard to bring back the results to match.”

Alex Quinn (#20) said:
“It’s my first time at Spa, so I’m excited to get on track, but more importantly very focused to do a good job and get the results we deserve this weekend.”

Reshad De Gerus (#21) said:
“I can't wait to race on the fabulous circuit of Spa, a circuit where I raced last year in F4. I’m very motivated and determined to achieve my goals.”

Ugo de Wilde (#27) said:
“Racing at home always feels special. I’m super excited and motivated to race at Spa this weekend.

“We found a really good baseline to work on in Spain, so I’m working really hard to be sure to do my best on track!”
