Aitken celebrates maiden win in Spa

Renault Sport Academy driver dominates for Arden!

Jack Aitken stormed to his maiden GP3 victory for Arden Motorsport in the second race of the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. The Renault Academy driver picked off his rivals into a commanding lead which he held to the flag.

It was another glorious day in Spa for Sunday’s Race 2 in Spa-Francorchamps.

Starting  4th on the grid, Jack Aitken kept a calm head which helped him seize his first GP3 Series win and first win of the season for Arden.

Jake Dennis was feeling strong following his 2nd place finish in Race 1, he was starting 7th. Tatiana Calderon started in 14th.

The incident filled race saw Aitken move into 2nd place by turn 1, putting him in perfect position to take the lead by the end of lap 2.
Dennis made a good start, avoiding a stranded car and as several drivers went wide, it played into his hands. Sadly, Calderon’s race came to an early end as she suffered an incident avoiding another car.

Edging away from the pack, Aitken increased his lead to over 1 second when the safety car was deployed on lap 4. Dennis maintained his fast pace, promoting him to 5th place.
Once the cars were cleared off the track, the race resumed and Aitken maintained his lead, increasing his gap.

But not too long after, the safety car was deployed for the second time following another incident.

At the end of Lap 7, the race resumed and Aitken increased his lead up to 2 seconds, keeping a good lead in front of the pack, but then there was a third safety car after a car hit the barriers.

The safety car went in at the end of lap 10, and the race continued – Aitken charged on until the chequered flag dropped, celebrating his first GP3 Series win, fastest lap and first win of the season for Arden. Dennis came across the line to finish in 5th place to cap off a strong weekend for the team.

Monza plays host to the next round of the GP3 Series Championship, which takes place on the 2nd – 4th September.
